Paul's View On Tongues.

1 Corinthians 14:22-24
[22]Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
[23]If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
[24]But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:

Read the Scripture above as sincerely as you can and the Lord will open up this secret to you through my words that I am about to give you now. Pay close attention to the wording used and style of reference employed by the apostle Paul here. I wish I could make you to listen to what I am about to say with undivided attention.

In verse 22, Paul says tongues are a sign to people who do not believe(unbelievers) and prophecy is a sign to believers. You have to keep that connection which he has established: Tongues - sign to unbelievers; Prophecy - sign to believers. Now, we cannot fully grasp the reality of what he is trying to say until we move to the following scriptures since they should explain this point to us.

Coming to verse 23, the apostle brings out the point that if unbelievers happen to arrive amidst our church services and find all of us speaking in tongues, they will say we are mad since they won't be understanding us. Then follows the scripture that gives the solution to that and tells us to rather prophesy because as we reveal hidden things about the unbeliever, they will certainly know that we worship the true God.

I know for sure you didn't see what just happened there. First Corinthians Chapter 14 verse 23 and verse 24 disagree with the statement that tongues are a sign to unbelievers and prophecy is a sign to believers. His explanation clearly tells you that prophecy is best used to minister to unbelievers and tongues are better used in the setting of believers contrary to what he says in verse 22. My God, I knew we were coming to this.

The bigger question is, Did Paul just get us confused? I love to say that usually secrets lie in grey, but not dark areas. There is a mystery Paul is communicating and that is only captured when you go arcane with verse 22. When he said tongues are for a sign, What did he really mean? Was it sign, like something meant to be used to minister to those mentioned, or it was some other sign.

Spiritual Signposts.

In the Strong's Concordance, the word Sign, in 1 Corinthians 14:22 , comes from the Greek word Semeion. It occurs 77 times in the Bible, and it means a sign, miracle, token or a wonder. I have already laid out the order of those words starting with the one most preferred in scripture. However I do not want to use my knowledge of the original rendering of this scripture to try and give you my explanation of what it means. Let's look at what the Amplified Version of the Bible has to say.

1 Corinthians 14:22-24(AMP)

1Cor.14.22 - Thus [unknown] tongues are meant for a [supernatural] sign, not for believers but for unbelievers [on the point of believing], while prophecy (inspired preaching and teaching, interpreting the divine will and purpose) is not for unbelievers [on the point of believing] but for believers.
1Cor.14.23 - Therefore, if the whole church assembles and all of you speak in [unknown] tongues, and the ungifted and uninitiated or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are demented?
1Cor.14.24 - But if all prophesy [giving inspired testimony and interpreting the divine will and purpose] and an unbeliever or untaught outsider comes in, he is told of his sin and reproved and convicted and convinced by all, and his defects and needs are examined (estimated, determined) and he is called to account by all,

I know you are busy wondering, "What just happened here?" Well relax, just understand the text. Tongues are meant to a supernatural sign occuring to somebody at the point of the becoming believers. That means tongues are a sign that one has been baptised in the Holy Spirit. My God! I know you didnt expect us to get to this point but it is right in front of your eyes, fully explained.

It looks like I have brought a new concept, which is why I refused to give you my personal intepretation of the scripture but rather consulted a more informed source to give it to you. Come on, read the book of Acts, the apostles knew that tongues were the sign that one had received the Holy Spirit. It was never a debatable issue, which is why i want to give you the next scripture.

The Early Church.

Acts 10:44-46
[44]While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
[45]And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
[46]For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

Listen carefully before this escapes you. Peter had brought some of the believers to go and minister to gentiles. Now, as Peter was just talking, the Holy Ghost fell on the listeners. Do you realise that verse 46 starts with FOR, which means its continuing verse 45 by giving a reason. Please read the scripture for yourself before you move on, it is very important you do so.

Now let me ask you a question, HOW DID PETER AND THE OTHER BELIEVERS KNOW THAT THESE GUYS HAD RECEIVED THE HOLY SPIRIT? You need to also answer in capital letters to that, so think before you provide an answer. Needless to say, the answer is already given in the same passage I gave you for reference. They knew that the gentiles had received the holy spirit FOR(because) they heard them speak in other tongues. DONE.

I don't have a problem with people who like to act as though they are blind to what the scriptures say. You certainly can not hide from these verses. It is clear enough that the first apostles knew that people had received the Holy Spirit when they heard them speak in the divine languages of the Holy Spirit.

If we choose to be technical about this, we will come to the conclusion that it was actually a doctrine in the early days of the  new testament that when people receive the Holy Spirit, they utter words in other tongues. This was, of cause in line with what Jesus had promised the apostles and stood no chance to be doubted by anyone in the early church. You couldn't question it at all.

The First Love.

Revelation 2:4
[4]Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

John received a revelation regarding a church that had left it's first love. This scripture, although it talks about love, communicates something deep about the mindset of God. The moment we receive the gospel, we are so full of faith, joy, love and zeal for God that we would willingly obey all that he would say to us at that moment.

However with time, most people begin to forget a few things and so give place to other things that choke all we had for God. That means your belief about God is disturbed and some things you used to hold with respect, you no longer regard them as such. What it was at the beginning, is exactly how it is meant to be.

This doesn't mean that you should not grow, but your foundation is never to be tempered with. Build as much as you would like but make sure your foundation is as God intends it to be. The Faith is exactly as that. As a believer, understand that there are basics that you simply cannot bypass. You have to believe in the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ, receive the Holy Spirit and Live with Him. Never make a mistake of skipping principles in the kingdom of God, because God is a God of order.

He Has Not Changed

Hebrews 13:8
[8]Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

The mindset of God doesn't change because we are now centuries from the time when Jesus Christ died. He is still the same God and would never be changed because now you call your church by a fancy name, or you have gone to school and think that speaking in tongues is an idea which is awkward.

You have to receive the Holy Spirit with evidence(sign) of speaking in tongues. Well, there is no verse which says that you can be baptised IN THE HOLY SPIRIT and not speak in tongues. I have already shown you the verse that says that when you are baptised by the spirit you speak in tongues, but you certainly can't point out any scripture that goes against this view.....NOT ONE.

HOLY GHOST AND FIRE.

Luke 3:16
[16]John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

Why am I stressing out the importance of tongues during the spiritual baptism? People don't realise that the baptism isn't of the spirit ONLY,  but it is also of the fire. So, if you get the spirit, and don't get the fire, the baptism is completely incomplete. Don't worry about the grammar there, it's the best way I had to say it to get it to your spirit.

Therefore during the baptism, you need to understand that the occurrence at Pentecost tells us exactly where the fire comes from......cloven tongues of fire. The tongues you speak in , contain that fire in which you will be supernaturally bathed. The fire comes from the spirit of God, contained inside the words you then speak. I intended not to go easy on this topic and not hold back. Exactly what I am doing.

Brothers and sisters, ladies and gentleman, men and women: understand that as much as I speak as one born in the twenty first century but with revelation from beyond the first century, I open scriptures as they are and wouldn't bother arguing with you for I know that the Lord himself has revealed these divine secrets unto me and I need no validation of anyone save that the scripture agrees with my words.

At the end of this book, you will find instructions on how you can be baptized of God in the Holy Spirit and fire even now. If you will live your Christian Life influenced by the Holy Spirit, you have to be baptised in the the Holy Spirit and fire. You seem to be holding up well if you have reached this part of the book, keep up the good work, the next chapter will be the icing on the cake.

Almost forgot to tell you that this is literally an excerpt from a book, THEY SPOKE WITH OTHER TONGUES. I Know that you were wondering which next chapter are we going to. So gladly click on the book and have yourself a lifechanging experience reading it. You need information contained in it so do not delay, now is the time.
