The Lord Jesus
Acts 10:38
[38]How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
The subject at hand demands the attention of every Christian. I like the fact that the Bible tells us that a man from Nazareth was anointed by God. The reference, Jesus of Nazareth is one of the most important references of Christ in all of the Bible. The reason is that it shows you the physical nature of Jesus.
This means that he was just a man from Nazareth, if and only if, we ignore the anointing that was upon him. It applies to you just the same, you are an example of a human being, born of women, and you lack in a variety of ways.
However, the moment the anointing of God comes upon your life, there is a change in every area of your life. You cease to be normal, and if you received the Holy Spirit, you really aren't normal.
People have no problem understanding this. The issue arises when it comes to functioning with the anointing of God. I usually like to say," A machine gun is just like any other toy, in the eyes of an infant."
This is to show you how important information is with regards to anything that you will ever take full advantage of. As you go arcane with the Holy Text, you will notice that the only ingredient needed for anyone to function in the anointing is the information. It is not enough for you to know about the anointing, you have to know about the anointing that is upon you.
Jesus Knew He Was Anointed
Luke 4:16-18
[16]And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
[17]And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
[18]The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
It is so encouraging to know how audacious Jesus was in this incident. What gets my attention the most is how the Lord Jesus knew that he was anointed and got to speak of it before the people even saw any manifestation of it.
There is less revealed about the anointing in this scripture, however something really critical hides in the text above. Did you notice that faith always goes before the anointing? You can't demonstrate the power that you don't believe you have.
We will get into such topics as how one can release the anointing and function in their own anointing at a given time and place. Nevertheless, let us go into what the anointing really is so that we can get a clearer picture of this phenomenon.
Two Components of the Anointing
[38]How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him
The anointing is basically made of two components: the Holy Spirit and The Power. Notice what the scripture says, God anointed Jesus using his own spirit and power.
This means that there is a part of the anointing that is conscious and there is another one that is inanimate. That means if we are going to function fully in the anointing, we need to know how to operate with the Holy Spirit, and also in the power.
It looks simple when we say it like this, but what follows is exactly what you are looking for in this book. However before we go into detail about this, let us consider a few examples from the Bible and see if we can identify these two components.
What I want to do is to show you what really causes the anointing of one individual to differ from that of the other regardless of the fact that it is one Holy Spirit working through everyone being used of God. I am starting the book now.
The Anointing on Samson
[19]And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father's house.
These are those scriptures you read and wonder what was happening with these guys in the Bible. Did you notice that this was a typical robbery? When you attack people in order to take their possessions.............
However, that's not what we are focusing on here. The Spirit of the Lord came upon Samson, and in turn, he went for a slaughter. Notice how it manifested in his case, he would receive power, to do things that were physically impossible.
This means that the anointing that the Lord had given to work in the life of Samson wouldn't cause him to do things outside of the scope of physical strength, and so, his anointing can be defined based on that .
I want you to keep that in mind. The spirit of the Lord rested upon him, but this resulted in him having access to power that he wasn't physically capable of having.
The Anointing on Zechariah
2 Chronicles 24:20
[20]And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.
On this particular account, the Spirit of the Lord came upon a priest. The Bible says that Zechariah began to counsel the children of God and tell them to correct their ways.
What's even striking is that he referenced his words to have been the words coming from God. So here we find another person, who exhibited a certain character when the spirit of the Lord came upon him.
This has to stay in your mind because you will need it in the coming pages. Zechariah could not lift iron gates, neither did he go about killing people, he simply opened his mouth and prophesied.
The Anointing On Gideon
Judges 6:34-37
[34]But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him.
[35]And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also was gathered after him: and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.
[36]And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,
[37]Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.
On the scripture above, we encounter yet another man who functioned by the anointing. Gideon is known primarily as one of the most successful judges of Israel. He wasn't one that would prophesy, or stand strong with supernatural force, but he seemed to gain insight into certain issues supernaturally.
He was a military man, but wasn't that outstanding in combat as we hear of Samson. Notice that in the scripture above, he displayed a lake of confidence and revelation in what the Lord wanted him to do.
However, we had been told that the spirit of the Lord had come upon him for him to start mobilizing people for war. This means that he was transformed into being a leader through the ability of making wise decisions by the anointing, without necessarily receiving superhuman strength or receiving prophetic revelations.
Why The Anointing Differs.
1 Corinthians 12:19-22
[19]And if they were all one member, where were the body?
[20]But now are they many members, yet but one body.
[21]And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
[22]Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
There is always a part that each and everyone is meant to play, especially in Christianity. Having received one Holy Spirit, we are each expected to contribute in the kingdom. This is the main reason why our anointing differ although we have the same spirit.
Taking that to what we have just discovered, we can safely say that each of us have one component of the anointing being similar to each other: the Holy Spirit. He is the one who qualifies an anointing to be of God.
However, the power given to us( ability, skill, faith towards something, and zeal) is what differs. Others can just like teaching God's word, and even do so in different ways. Some people might be drawn to the prophetic, evangelistic ,or any other ministration of God.
The power will always differ from Christian to Christian due to what the Lord intends for them to do on earth. It is important you understand this because this is exactly what makes your anointing to be different from my anointing.
What did the Lord authorize your spirit to do whilst you are here on earth? Were you given power to speak his word about the future? Did he give you the right to go about healing people? Understanding this simple truth transforms your pointless life into one that will yield godly results.
Your thought right now is that we as Christians, are called to do pretty much all spiritual things that Christ did, and even more. That's exactly what it is. However, knowing the principle of predestination will save you a lot of confusion.
You can heal a sick person right now, because you have the Holy Spirit and you are born again, but there is always something that you simply can not remove from your spirit. It's like your mind can not operate outside of that aspect of the kingdom of God.
Well, I don't deny the fact that some dreams can come from your flesh and be made based on pride. I also acknowledge that other dreams and desires come from your spirit and find their source to be the anointing.
This is why you can hear someone say that as they go about their daily lives, they always get so focused on the sick members of the community and find themselves cut to their heart with regards to how these members survive in this world.
You have your own Anointing From God
1 John 2:20
[20]But ye have an unction(anointing) from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
Much is said in this short scripture and we will use a considerable amount of time to look into what it says. My case though, is the fact that the apostle looks to establish here, that you and I are anointed.
The idea that the man of God in the church is the one that is anointed was never biblical; at least not anywhere else except in the Old Testament. Now, we all have been anointed by God and what is left for us is to function in that anointing to our best capacity.
In the following Chapter, we start the journey of understanding the anointing by getting to know the first component of the anointing - the Holy Ghost. The moment you will awaken to this revelation of the anointing is when all your battles in your life will become your daily bread.
It's as easy as that, understand the Holy Spirit, then the Power.
